Trenton City Water Operator

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing or contracting all necessary maintenance & testing throughout the water system as directed by the Council Member responsible for water. Responds to call-outs as needed, performs all required inspections, & marks all blue stakes requests in a timely manner.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Samples: Collect all samples required, submit them to the appropriate lab, keep records of the results per the Utah Division of Drinking Water.

2. Chlorine Testing: Collect & test all samples, submit reports to the Utah Division of Drinking Water.

3. Monitor the system via SCADA at least daily. Maintain flow rates to keep tanks full & pressures maintained. Collect monthly flow data for each spring.

4. Collection Maintenance (annually):

a. Generator checks

b. Interconnect pump check & blow-off

c. Clear out brush & deep rooted vegetation at the springs

d. Dig out overflow pipes @ the springs.

5. Regular Distribution Maintenance (annually):

a. Replace 10% of meters

b. Replace 20% backflow valves

c. Flush hydrants (fire department)

d. Exercise valves

e. Generator check

f. Interconnect pump check & blow-off

g. Clean out brush at the springs & deep vegetation

h. Dig out overflow pipes @ the springs.

6. Blue Stakes: Mark all blue stakes requests in a timely manner.

7. Recordkeeping & reporting:

a. Annual Usage Report

b. Source Protection Plan Signatures Annually

c. Consumer Confidence Report

d. Cross Connection, Site Sample Plan, Source Protection Plan, & Emergency Response Plan

8. Education & Certification:

a. Obtain a Water Operator Certificate (Grade 1)

b. Attend BackFlow 101 & maintain backflow certification.

c. Attend Water Conferences OR at least 7 hrs of CE per year.

9. Repairs, Complaints, & New Service: On-call 24/7 for complaints & repairs. Take necessary steps to resolve issues in a timely manner. Keep the shed shelves organized & stocked for necessary repairs & installations. Contract for new service.

10. Supervision & Coordination: a. Report regularly to Council Member responsible for water.

10. Must be willing to submit to a background check upon further consideration for the job.

11. May be subject to drug testing when required by the Council Member responsible for water, and in accordance with the District’s drug testing policy.

12. Use of an ATV/Snowmobile for sample collection & springs maintenance is very helpful but not necessary. Employee will be compensated for use of their own ATV/Snowmobile

1. Heavy physical effort. Must be capable of handling heavy objects safely.

2. Intermittent standing, sitting, crouching, and walking.

3. Considerable exposure to stressful situations as a result of human behavior.

4. Frequent exposure to elements such heat, cold, and dampness.

5. Handling of poisonous materials such as chlorine.
